Video Description:
Lasers have found application in a number of cosmetic procedures, including resurface of the skin to reduce signs of aging or damage from acne. Lasers are also used in liposuction to remove body fat. Scott Aaronson, M.D., of Aaronson Plastic Surgery Center, explains several cosmetic procedures available to reduce or eliminate wrinkles and lines in the face, including laser resurfacing and Botox injections. Dr. Aaronson says laser resurfacing is good for removing fine lines caused by dryness and those wrinkles that form around the mouth. He explains how Botox can be used to relax the muscles between the eyebrows to smooth out frown lines and on wrinkly feet around the eyes. He also explains the role of dermal fillers like collagen.

Today we have a variety of options when it comes to polishing our appearance. One of the newest ways we can do that is by laser resurfacing, which can reduce facial wrinkles, scars and blemishes. Newer laser technologies give your plastic surgeon a new level of control in laser surfacing, permitting extreme precision, especially in delicate areas. It’s all about using beams of light. Laser skin resurfacing is also known as a laser peel, laser vaporization or lasabrasion. Our surgeon uses the laser to send short, concentrated beams of light at irregular skin. This removes unwanted, damaged skin in a very precise manner one layer at a time. This targeted approach means there are fewer problems with pigmentation, or lightening of skin for ways such as laser acne scar removal.

The laser beam used in laser resurfacing will remove your outer layer of skin, called the epidermis. It simultaneously heats the underlying skin, called the dermis. This action works to stimulate growth of new collagen fibers. As the treated area heals, the new skin that forms is smoother and firmer.
