Recovery After Joint Replacement. Robert Tait M.D. of St. Rose Dominican Hospitals discusses recovery after joint replacement surgery. Dr. Tait explains how the development of what are called hard on hard bearings has eliminated the need to use polyethylene plastic in the hip resulting in a longer lasting artificial joint. Dr. Tait says in order to speed up rehabilitation from joint replacement surgery hip replacement patients are required to be up out the hospital bed and dressed in regular clothing by 8 each morning. These patients then spend the day upright in special recliner chairs while undergoing physical therapy with fellow patients. Dr. Tait also discusses minimally invasive techniques for knee surgery.
